UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration (UK LLC) has launched a pioneering Citizen Panel project to involve diverse and often seldom heard members of the public in research governance. This model emphasises mutual learning, open communication, and inclusive decision-making. Lead by Dr. Lidis Garbovan, this paper outlines the Citizen Panel project that includes 15 diverse panel members who meet regularly both online and in-person to provide input on ethical data use, representation, and inclusivity in longitudinal research. A Steering Group of five public members helped guide recruitment and project decisions.
The Panel’s role includes assessing UK LLC’s data access process, ensuring inclusivity, and identifying gaps. Their insights aim to build public trust and improve transparency in how linked data is used for public good.
Findings will be shared publicly to promote inclusive and credible research processes with data about individuals across their lifetime.
UK LLC is now encouraging applications from both longitudinal researchers and analysts who use large datasets as part of their research and are interested in the depth of detail present in linked LPS datasets.
With over 400,000 participant records in the Trusted Research Environment, datasets can be viewed via UK LLC Explore, and UK LLC Guidebook providing a comprehensive user guide and growing set of data documentation. Applications are made via the UK LLC Application System and the UK LLC is currently free to access for early adopters.
